Itinerary

Day 1

Fly from home airport to Berlin.


Day 2

Arrive in Berlin.

Trains available from airport to Alexanderplatz every 30 minutes for Euro 4.40.

You can take either the RE 8 or S-Bahn S9 train located directly below the airport.

Arrive at Alexanderplatz plaza and check in at Hotel Park Inn-Alexanderplatz with your name and passport.

Rest and enjoy plaza area.

Meet in hotel dining room for opening dinner at 6:00 p.m.

Overnight in Berlin.


Day 3

Germany-Austria from Martin Luther to WWII and Beyond

Daily buffet breakfast

Depart at 9:00 for Berlin sites:

  • Reichstag/Cupola Dome (bring passport)

  • Checkpoint Charlie/Berlin Wall

Day 4

Load and depart for Wittenberg.

(En route, visit Glienicke “Bridge of Spies.”) Tour Melanchthon House.

Open lunch in Market Square.

Visit All Saints’ Church/Schlosskirche where Luther posted his 95 Theses; Luther House and St. Mary’s Church where Luther preached.

Dinner and overnight in Wittenberg.


Day 5

Depart for Eisenach’s Wartburg Castle, where Luther translated the New Testament into German.

Open lunch and continue to Erfurt, spiritual home of Luther.

Lodging provided at Erfurt Augustinian Monastery where Luther lived for six years.

Dinner and overnight in Erfurt.


Day 6

Breakfast and then Sabbath morning worship at Erfurt Augustinian Monastery.

Guided tour of monastery and chapel and provided vegetarian lunch.

Afternoon tour St. Mary’s Cathedral and the Church of St. Severus.

Dinner and overnight in Erfurt.


Day 7

Depart for Nuremberg.

Tour Nazi rally grounds.

Dinner and overnight in Nuremberg.


Day 8

Depart for Dachau Concentration Camp.

Continue to Bavaria.

Dinner and overnight in Bavaria.


Day 9

Relaxing morning in Fussen.

Visit to Neuschwantstein Castle. Take a run or two on the Alpine Slide.

Open dinner and overnight in Bavaria.

(Germany-only travelers will depart for Munich airport.)

Pre-Tour

Tour nearby Potsdam & the Sanssouci Palace.

Walk the quaint streets of the “Holländisches Viertel” (Dutch Quarter) or the Russian colony “Alexandrowka”and experience a time long past.

Continue on to Sanssouci Palace, the summer residence of the Prussian kings often referred to as the Prussian “Versailles.”

Spend time enjoying the magnificent gardens. Return to Berlin.

Salzburg, Sound of Music Castle

Day 10

Depart Bavaria for Eagle’s Nest at Kehlstein Summit where Nazi leadership decisions were made.

Lunch, and continue onto Salzburg, Austria, and the beautiful Schloss Leopoldskron “Sound of Music” castle and lake.

Open dinner and overnight at the Schloss Leopoldskron in Salzburg.


Day 11

Enjoy leisurely brunch and morning at the Schloss. Walk into Salzburg.

Take Sound of Music bus tour or Fraulein Maria’s Bicycle Tour of Sound of Music sights.

Free time in Salzburg to visit Mozart’s birthplace, Marionette Theatre, or shop.

Open dinner and overnight at the Schloss Leopoldskron in Salzburg.


Day 12

Breakfast and transfer to Salzburg airport for flight home.

Travelers choosing to fly out of Munich airport may take the Salzburg-Munich train to the Munich airport.

The “Sound of Music” Hotel

The Schloss Leopoldskron is an elite hotel whose castle building, lake, and grounds appeared in “The Sound of Music.”

Our tour package includes a standard room in the Meierhof building adjacent to the Schloss castle building.

Breakfast is served in the Schloss, and all guests have access all day to the Schloss building and grounds.

Optional room upgrades to the Schloss castle building are available on a first-come basis by emailing tabghatours@gmail.com when you sign up for the Germany/Austria tour.
